I'm seeing IHI RHB5 turbos advertised as coming out of toyotas and hondas saying they're suitable for 2litres and less. Would this be the same as the RHB5 that comes out of the Charade and suitable for a 998cc?

I'd say not. Pretty much in the same way that the Metro T3 was not the same as the Saab T3 (which has an engine 1.5 times larger than the metro)...

Have you not considered these many small GT15 units that are appearing on ebay regularly?

Just be careful if looking on diesel 306's, the early ones using mechanical injection use either a garrett T2 or a KKK turbo (can't remember the number).

Only the HDi engined cars (approx 1999 onwards?) use the GT15.

Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for the warning Tom.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

think you'll find its a 3 bolt triangular inlet to the turbo. not compatible with mirage or anything etc mind but no real problem if your making your own manifolds.

That was always going to be the case I think, even if I decided to use the IHI as this is going to be a 998cc turbo.

The one I found is from a Mondeo, would that make it bigger than the 306 HDi version (ie. too big)?

yeah but you will probably use a 1275 head? then you can use any manifold produced for the 1275's then. i.e. metro or mirage etc.

gt15 tend to have a T2 flange pattern, bar stuff like fords.

I was actually recommended and planning on using (if I can find one in decent condition) a 12G295 head.
Would a 1275 head fit a 998 block?

yep, easier and cheaper to find, just needs the block pocketing. easy enough considering what your taking on really *smiley*

Yes to the bolt together, yes to the low cost and yes to the low speed torque. This car is going to be 99% road use, so high rpm's will be rare.

what sort of bhp can I be expecting from this spec?

In that case, and seeing you want about 100bhp, stop making matters difficult for yourself, and flop a 1275 engine in, 93bhp as standard and no need for fucking about with different turbos, custom manifolds and all the rest of it.

You dont need a turbo engine, just a 1275.

Minis in general and more specifically engines in any sort of working order are pretty rare in Ireland, and if they are available the prices are stupid. Hence my wish to turbo charge the current engine.
