Evening guys,

replacing some parts as the cars off the road for winter, exhaust being one of them.

Currently its a 2.5inch straight through pipe to a cherry bomb - very loud and pretty rotten.

I'd like to keep the pipe to keep things simple, but want to replace the silencer. I'm struggling to find anything suitable.

What are you guys using? I don't want to use a reducer if possible, but im open to suggestions.....

:)

What are you using it on? Or have I missed a build thread somewhere.

Sorry, should explain - no build thread yet as im lazy :-p

its a 1275 T2, in a 71 clubman. running 10psi boost, but i'll be upping that next year, so silencer needs to be up to that.

I'd probably just go with a 2 inch maniflow one.

I rate the maniflow exhausts highly. Don't use anything else.

Maniflow it is then by the sound of things.

Is it ok to use a reducer or should I get a new down pipe?

I use a fletcher side exit stainless box and a stainless link pipe with a mid box. passes noise regs

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Do fletchers come in 2.5 inch? Could be a solution?

I dont know I have a 2" but they do have a slightly larger exit.

I would go for a flecture system, that what I am using on my clubby estate, sounds amazing, and really good quality.
Not sure if they come in a 2.5" system though.

I'll add in a vote against Maniflow.

Although it was easy to fit and sounds/looks nice, I can't recommend it if you're going to use the car regularly on the road and want it to last a long time.

I've had a Maniflow system fitted to mine since early 2009 and it was on the road daily for about 2 years in total up to now. Both of the back boxes are now scabby as hell with rust, and it is not just on the surface as I had the whole lot off the car not long ago.

However, this may be the same story for all other systems that you can buy, I am of course just sharing what I've found so make of it what you will. :)

Thats odd, I'd not heard much bad about maniflow and almost bought a custom one for myself yesterday.

Apparently they have a 3 year warranty now? Don't know if that sort of damage would be covered by it though?

It could just be that I drove the car in all winds and weathers, as it was my daily car for quite a while.

I reckon it's almost certainly out of warranty now, it's well over 4 years old.

I'm after an exhaust for my daily at the moment, and thought maniflow would be a sensible option. I'll make sure to speak to them about warranty now..

Any mild steel exhaust will rot over time, especially if used in winter. If you don't want rot, buy stainless.

Indeed, that's why I'll be buying a stainless system next time *happy*

Thanks guys.

Would rather buy once, so it looks like the fletcher system will get my money. I'll let you know my thoughts once its fitted.

Ta!
