Hi, we have 3 or 4 heavy duty saws which we can cut up to approx 12" solid round on, my problem is because they all get so much use they are not accurate for small bits and pieces.

I'd quite like a TCT high speed chop saw, but the usual ones (DeWalt, Makita etc) are just mounted on a pressed crappy metal base which is fine for site stuff but not accurate enough for machine work etc.

Can anyone recommend a decent, well made accurate one? Just for cutting up to 40mm diameter solid bar, EN8 etc.

Cheers

Personally I have a small Clarke bandsaw, this is good enough for cutting to approx length, I then face stuff off in the lathe if it needs to be spot on and/or a good finish.

Pretty much all chopsaws Ive ever seen are the same. Simple metal base with a clamp. Wouldnt say any of them are precision items. Ive only ever used the normal cutting disc versions though. TCT one should be a lot better ?

What about a bandsaw or something similar ?

Good point...solid metal bar might be pushing things.

I guess it would go through it if you were able to guide the cutting blade down slow enough ?

You get what you pay for. The cheaper ones will have a lighter weight chassis. If your looking for something more substantial, you'll need to look at the engineering tool suppliers

Yeah we have a couple of slow pull down saws with coolant pumps which are very heavy duty, but not great for big solid stuff and the cut isn't great. I think a fast TCT saw is the way to go, we have a couple of band saws too, the big one will do anything at all, we have cut 250mm round solid bar before and the cut is ok, but on small stuff it's not great, also being a band saw the blade does wander slightly.
