NEAR SOUTHAMPTON

Hello
Another daft question
I am unsure how to set-up the length of the wastegate shaft. I think it has been taken apart at some stage and so I need to know how to set it up correctly. Looked in the Metro manual, nothing in there.
Would have thought there must be a correct setting for it, position and overall length etc, so could one of you clever bods advise me please.
PS checked the search thingy, but not a lot happened.
Cheers

I'd say its not enough. But have found that it really makes little difference in practice.

Yea, will probably try a bit more now that the turbo is run in, when I rebuilt the turbo it seemed a bit slow to boost so I took the pressure off to what it is on the photo and seemed better, not really sure there's a lot of different opinions out there don't you think?..

Isn't that the opposite to how it should work?

Ie - more preload holds the waste gate shut for longer = quicker response?

More pre-load on the actuator or a heavier actuator will take more effort to crack open.

So it should provide better spool up. In much the same way most decent boost controllers will block the signal to the wastegate to prevent the w/g blowing open any sooner than is actually needed.

Even if you wanted say 10psi boost with a 4psi actuator, it's all fine bleeding it off, but even at say 6-7psi the w/g will be partially open when there really is no need so it will affect spool.

Many settings will be ok.

Too weak can make it lethargic. Too tight and you might experience a slight overshoot or at the extreme end boost creep.

If you arent experiencing any of these problems, then more pre-load will do no harm.

So really you want to run the tightest/strongest wastegate spring or load that you can without giving you an overshoot.

Think I get the idea now.
Will check the position of the hole in relation to the pin (with the wastegate fully closed) I will start at 4mm offset and see how it works (or not)
Thanks for the info.
Next daft question soon I think
Cheers
