Just layed down an initiall primer coat on my mini to work from and this happened:

Its only in the bay really, i tiny bit of the passenger side of the scuttle, i gave it a good tub down, and the. Cleaned it with brake cleaner, let that evaporate, and after a cup of tea i had this spider web effect.
If i had an engine in since it way last painted i could understand it but being it hasnt touched the road yet i dont know what has caused it.

Has anyone else had this problem, and what did youbuse to solve it, or worst comes to worst is it a take it all to bare job....

:(

This problem wasnt written into the xmas scedule lol

My guess is brake cleaner isn't strong enough to remove grease and shit prior to painting. Thinners or other prep cleaning agent is needed.

Could be the brake cleaner that did it, get some proper panel wipes to clean it off properly. Of that fails you may need to go back to bare metal or bar-Coat it first.

Get yourself some 'panel wipe' some lint free cloths and tack cloths.

sand the surfaces, then use the panel wipe until the cloths do not pick up any dirt, then use the tack cloth to remove any dust, then paint it. If you are using 2k, you can get thinners that help prevent reactions, but if you don't prep it propperly first, nothing will help.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Take it back to the metal, . Its crazed due to some unknown paint underneath. ?

Petrol is an excellent degreaser trust me, as long as the paintwork is not synthetic paint underneath, ..... but I doubt It in the engine bay

EDIT: I thought you sold up rick. ? or was selling up buddy? Glad you didn't. *happy*

Still want a turbo mini, but itl be in the future now, and probably on a second mini *wink*

The paint inderneath is known as i painted it about 2 years ago myself, standard paint and laquer, Ill get the drill and wire attachments ready and give it a thorogh clean up.

I read that you didn't actually paint it, all you did was clean the existing paint with brake cleaner? I'd say that was your issue. As the others say, use a proper panel wipe

What ever you use to clean it with, leave it a day so it properly evaporates, primer is porous so will hold some of the fluid for a while, especiay as its not that warm at the moment.
