Would anyone be able to help me out and take a quick measurement of the thickness of the Primary gear backing ring and the c ring, for a 1275 engine.

I am having trouble setting the end float on my primary gear and want to eliminate the above items. just want to make sure that mine haven't worn that much that they are causing me problems. I have currently got 0.6mm of end float, and there won't be a thrust washer big enough to allow me to get the desired end float.

Thanks

Luke

If you are unlucky and the c clip has been replaced at some point with one from Minisport, that might be your problem, failing that, as Andy said, the rear bush is worn.

Could also be the thrust face on the crank, for the primary. Again, Minisport seem to supply reground cranks, with the primary gear journal dimentions all over the show

Having a closer look the crank does look like it has a fair bit of wear on it (not good). Think i need to find another crank.

Is there a way of checking if it is a c clip and washer from minisport? What was the issue with them, too thin?

A pukka c clip fits in the groove on the crank nicely without much play. The Minisport ones are made of a sub standard material and are thinner. They rattle around in the groove on the crank. difference in thickness is absurd!

Well i have got a new C clip and washer from Mini Spares and this has removed all the play in the groove in the crank. The end float is not in a sesible range and i will be able to get the correct end float with a different size bronze shim.

Is 6 Thou a good spec for use with straight cut drops?

I had the same problem, I ended up having to make up a new bush to take up the endfloat.
