During the build of my new remote gearbox with Quaife ATB I noticed that one of my pot joints is a sloppy fit on the output shaft. It is possible to wobble the pot joint in and out about 5mm and almost as bad side to side. Using the proper Minispares tool I got the pot joint off with a lot of difficulty and replaced the pot joint with a new one. The new one is just as wobbly a fit.

Now I need to get the pot joint off again to check the output shafts but the pot joint wont budge. I am having a lot of trouble with this.
Normally all it takes to separate pot joints is a light tap with the hammer against the tool.

1. Any tips how to get the pot joint off?
2. How much play in the joint and output shaft is permitted

Thanks Daz

Sounds like you have one of the bad batch of pot joints that were floating round. I had one that was too tight and wouldn't go on the diff.

Isn't here a centre cap inside the pot joint to stop the grease falling out you can smack out with a hammer/screw driver so you could try shifting it with a 3 leg puller.

It was my passenger side that wouldn't go on. Ended up with a new joint which went on nicely.

Eventually got the pot joint off the output shafts after a lot of swearing. Used a big chisel to wack it off. The circlip was snapped, probably be me forcing it off.
The play is due to wear in the bronze bush in the side cover I think. I have a few Rod change side covers I can try, I think they are compatible with my remote box.
