hi guys

my 998 mini has over the last few days developed a grinding noise at the top end of the rev range but only in 1st , 2nd and 3rd.

any ideas what is making this grinding noise ????

Difficult to say without a bit more detail, gearbox layshaft? due to noise disappearing in 4th?

Check the oil for metal debris.
It's not the layshaft though, but the mainshaft/ 1st motion shaft.

ohhhhh sounds nasty might have to put my other engine and gearbox in but yeah ill check the oil first.
