Hi all,

I am in the process of building a vauxhall 1.6 8v turbo engine ready to be fit in my clubby estate.

I just want to find does any here on the forum help me out to make a tubular manifold and pipes to mount my turbo over the gearbox, as space is a issue for me.

Preferably in Middlesex, as that is where I am based.

All help really appreciated.

Thank you

Bobby

Have a go your self at tacking it up to what your looking for, then take it somewhere to get it welded.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

Yeah that what I will probably have to do, the only problem I have got, is that I do not have a exhaust pipe bending tool.
Also I am not sure what type of pipe and what diameter tube I would need.

Unless anyone has a idea what other material I can use to make a mock up manifold and then take some pipes and get the fabricator to make it up via my mock design.

Shropshire.

Not looked at your build on the 16v site for a while.. Did you find out the turbo was going to hang out the front then?

Not yet, as I have not had a chance to check it in the car yet.

I am think I may relocate the turbo over the gearbox now to save space, so just trying to get some idea on mocking up a manifold, so then I can get it fabricated

Yep. Fasten your turbo above the gearbox somehow, then you can make as many runners as you like without ruining expensive tubing.

From what I have read, try and keep the 4 runners roughly the same length, or as close as you can. Look at performance down pipes for your engine and try and gauge distances between going 4 -2 and 2 -1, then use this as a guide for your fanimold. It might not be the absolute optimum, but should be good enough for your needs.

EDIT: Also try and get a flexi join in between the engine and turbo and one in the down pipe, then if your turbo moves with heat expansion and contraction then you have less risk of breaking the manifold. You also need to have some movement in the mounts. I've seen rose joints suggested as a way of achieving this.

Thanks alot for that, I have drawn out a idea of how I want the tubing to be, but I was think more on the lines of 4-1, instead of 4-2 and then 2-1, but as I am new to the turbo scene this may be a better option for the turbo.

In regards to the flexi joint, would this need to be where the manifold ends and joins the turbo?
And the where the elbow ends and joins the the downpipe?

I was going to use rose joints for the mounts intially anyway, so that part is covered.

Thanks again for the help.

Bobby

As long as it's near the turbo then it will be fine. I would still put one in your exhaust under the engine or as it goes into the tunnel to allow the engine to move.

Would this fit the 1.6 8v head, as this states its for 2.0 8v.

Will message them now though, cheers for that

Shropshire.

No it won't fit the head you have. And that will probaly hit the engine mount.. You could probably rotate the flange a bit but then I'm 99% sure the turbo will hang out the front of the car.

If you mount the turbo over the gearbox where are you planning on running the down pipe? Infront the under?

Yeah I have rotated the flange, but not sure if this will stick out, but if I go with route of the turbo over the gearbox, then I will try and run the downpipe from the back of the gearbox.

Hopefully this will work, just have to wait and see

JUst found out from a member on the mini 16v forum, that has done a NA conversion in the clubby front with a 2.0 8v, but overall same size.

There is a about 8" between the block and front of the clubby front.

So I may be ok to fit the turbo in the front, just have to see and hopefully it will fit.

Its a play on words. I'm sure people do this in other languages too?

FaniMold as in ManiFold. By swapping round the M with the F, the resultant word is a crude example of sexual inuendo.
