So, having mullered my gearbox at a recent track day, I'm formulating a plan. Most of this morning's research has been about gear ratios, which I'm going to have some fun with spreadsheets and the output from my last rr session. This topic however is about LSDs.

So I was running a standard diff in the Frog *surprised*. In the wet quite frankly it was completely terrifying. Not so much in the bends, but in the wet at high speed on the straight stuff it was all over the road and I just had to slow down. In fact this was the point at which my gearbox decided to strip some teeth.

Reading about LSDs, I cant decide if moving to one will help or hinder the problem. I'm running a standard geometry set up at the moment apart from hi-Los and adjustable Gaz shocks. I can't fathom from the topics on these forums and minispares website if an LSD will dramatically improve the situation at speed or just exacerbate my basic handling setup. I'm really keen to make the thing more drivable in the wet as I intended to track the car on a regular basis and you can't always guarantee a dry day.

So - will it help or hinder?

If it will help, which one should I go for for track day use (it's road legal, but I'm only willing for partial compromise for road going use)

Cheers :)

Before going lsd i would sort the suspension out and get it all tracked and setup properly, that willdo more good. Order some adjustable bottom arms and tie bars, i would go rose jointed but that up to ou and what you want to spend.

If you think a normal diff is scary in the wet then an LSD or ATB is probably not for you. It will produce a better lap time but will need more skill and brave pills to get there.

The best single improvement i did for mine handling wise was have it corner weighted almost removed torque steer and although i have other suspension mods and sits 1 inch off the ground witch is not ideal i can push it round corners and not worry
Im running an open 4pin minispares diff

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

yep good setup is imerative, and removinng as much rubber as possible from the linkages IMO.

I love my LSD, but with the hammer down loss of grip on one wheel can really be an issue.

Mate if you are looking I have a 4 pin diff spare, It needs a rebuild but if you are looking, I am sure we could come to some sort of a deal.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

A quaife atb is the middle of the road diff , ideal for the road and odd track days.

Its will transform cornering etc no end.

A plate diff is for the men, its will grap and snatch , idealy for track only. (dont get me wrong am sure some would be happy for the road)

But above all that like others have said, suspension set up, and another thing bushes?? . Not meaning you need fancy polly ones just make sure the rubber ones are in good condition.

Wet conditions are crap no matter what set up you have , allthough it will make slightly better it will never sort it.

Cheers guys, glad I asked. Will probably stick with a X-pin for the rebuild and do those suspension upgrades and setup instead. LSD clearly something for the longer term!
