I've got a 1932 straight 8 engine, that I have finally managed to find a distributor for which was hard enough (engine was missing it when I got it), however I do not have a drive gear for it. It is traditional in that it meshes with the cam, and drives both the dissy and the oil pump, I reckon it's approx 40mm diameter, and I only have the cam to go off for dims etc.

I only have 1 lead on a new one, a guy who I have found in Oz has one but he wants $200 plus shipping! Sounds like extortion but given that I don't have any info on the dims etc, am I best off just buying it rather than messing around with something that could just not work?!

What I was thinking, just pissed that someone bothered to nick it when it's not even part of the dissy!

For what it's worth re. the dimensions, if it's a 90 degree skew gear (with teeth at 45 degrees) it should be identical to the one on the cam because of the 1:1 speed ratio between cam and dizzy.

And if it is a skew gear it should even be handed the same to get the 90 degrees.

EDIT - to make more sense.

Buy it before someone else does or he changes his mind. then you'll kick yourself for not buying it.

Or stick megajolt onto it lol

Yeah I guess the only other option I have is to make one out of a spare cam- but never seen one of those for sale either!

I've spent $250 on the dissy so far, so it would have been cheaper to go MJ, but I love the old skool dissy look on an engine like this.

It's a 1932 Nash Straight 8, with twin plugs (dissy feeds 16 leads, so I couldn't figure out if MJ would be able to cope anyway)

One dizzy with 16 leads ? feck lol That's gotta be some size !

Ask over on the Engines and Drivetrain section on Pistonheads.
There has been some guys there with real old stuff.

Stevie it has 2 condensers, two sets of points, and a twin rotor arm too! (Luckily the cap is numbered so you don't have to work out what leads go where!)
