So, I've just lifted out the engine this morning... I've added a few photos below to see what you think of the setup, maybe some of you might be able to identify the engine?

Here is the engine with most of the ancillaries still attached, oil cooler flopped on floor in front.

Here shows WFM 1024 NW.... tried to search what this means but couldn't find the answer?

The turbo, clearly states 'garrett' on it. Wiggled the compressor inside, spins freely, no play.

Dump valve on top, I think I'll be losing this!

Two photos here of the same valves, one with a flash the other without... I understood that the exhaust valve stems on a turbo head were thicker, easy to see with the eye? I'll be honest, not easy to notice a difference by eye and I don't have a measuring caliper just yet. leads me to think it's not a turbo head?

Here is the fuel pressure regulator, 'Seregno'... with two lines from the tank.

And finally the engine bay, looks like the bulkhead work done properly.. good job of the welding.

So what do you think? Not a bad setup? Should the exhaust stems be more obvious than that? I went at the blue paint with a wire brush, she was defiantly red before she got her most recent coat.

the photos are of the push-rods, not the valves

Looks like a metro T3, metro fuel pressure regulator and a 1275 A+ engine. The only way to know for sure what's in it is to pull it apart.

Almost nothing on the outside of the engine will 100% identify what it is, as apbellamy says you need to get the head off and check the obvious things, although get yourself a haynes or something as you should ideally know the basics before stripping down an engine, like what valves are! I'm not taking the piss, but you don't wanna go damaging anything and learning the hard way.

Ah yes of course, too much haste to upload the photos! I do know what a valve is (and a push rod), check these photos out from the correct side. Still hard enough to see with the springs in the way, the stems that is.

No your right, that's exactly why I'm here.. I'm not going to attempt to mess with something I'm not 100% on, this is all research at the moment, comments & suggestions all greatly appreciated!

if you have a look at the top of the stem, the original turbo exhaust valves are noticably larger

Yup, upon close inspection the stems are not noticeably different in size. So not original turbo exhaust valves me thinks!

Also, keep the dump valve. You might not like the noise, but it helps protect the compressor.

I'm in two minds about the dump valve? It's not that I hate the noise... I just think they are a bit 'Look at me!'

Are most of you guys using dump valves?

It's got a float bowl chamber extension on it.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

yes, with out it your risk compressor stall and potentially breaking your turbo. More so if you run more than factory boost

Very wet south wales

Is that how the plenum usually goes or when not running an intercooler.

Is the plenum connected to the turbo there ?

Dump Valves are cool, and yes if your spending that much on a turbo mini you do want people to look at you pahaha *happy*

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

They are on something that shouldn't normally have one, i.e. a Mini.
