Does anyone rent a place to keep their cars/spares in? I my have found a farm where I can keep mine. Just wondering what sort of prices people pay?

There is access to electric, space for quite a few cars but no solid floor

we've had a few places through the years and currently rent part of an old chicken shed; it measures approx 8m x 12m with power included at £210/month.

not sure about down south but up here it is getting harder to find good places as the farmers through the years have been buggered about by fly-by-night types of dubious intention. that and the tax man catching up with them re cash in hand rent income!

When we had the place at the boat yard, we were paying about £1.50/sqft/year

the biggest question I'd have with anywhere you are going to take is security though; I'd pay more to give me peace of mind that my stuff is safe while i'm not about; our place many years ago in Clydebank was constantly being broken into and we lost a fair few bits over the years. Likewise we did get a break-in at the boat yard but they didn't get anything that time although neighbours were cleaned out. At the current place however, the place is constantly watched by the farmer and we have little real concern for security (touch wood!)

near Dundee

We pay 100 a month for half of a stable block, enough for 4 cars or 2 and loads of working space,
It's got electric and flagstone floors :)

I was renting a place on a local industrial estate was about 150 a month fairly small but 2min walk from my house and nice and secure. I was looking for ages on the Internet and stuff and haven't had a look round there it's a big building that a chap has split up into smallish units would be worth a drive round any local ones and look out for sines? x

Being in the property industry, and knowing the pitfalls of a lease, you really want a nice cash in hand place

My club rented storage and, in addition to security concerns, think about insurance.

The club lost a load (a shed load!) of spares when an arsonist burned the place down.

This place isn't very secure but the Farmer is always around and I could make it more secure.

Think I will just have to sell the mini and maybe something else and some spares. Unless I find someone else who will rent it with me and split the cost

short term, you could get a container store until you find something suitable

Shame you aren't closer to me as I'm looking for rented space as well. At the moment I have a storage garage which will have to do for the mean time.

I rented a little unit a few years back and I totally agree with Rob, try and get a cash in hander, we were renting ours off the council, which was on an industrial estate. I had to get a letter of confirmation so we didnt get stung with council tax etc, even after we came out of the unit they still wanted more and more money. Even though it was only used as storage and not for buisness purposes.
