If I were you I'd pull the oil pump and bearing caps for inspection as a bare minimum.

Is that a standard box too, can just make out a helical gear in there. Didn't realise it was possible to destroy a diff with a std box.

How are the bearings, is the casing cracked? Just seems a bit impressive to break a Pinion, but not have the gearset let go instead.

its all standard as far as im aware.
its a mpi engine converted to carb.
i do know its a different box though as it doesn't have a long final drive like mpis should?
everything else seems ok. no cracks or anything

Judging by the colour inside the gearbox casing, it's been shy of a few oil changes in its past!
