Hi all,

I am still having a lot of trouble with my 1330cc to get it going.

The spec of the engine is:

A+ 1275, overbored +60 pistons, with 7cc dish, 266 cam, 1.5 high-lift rockers and a stage 3 head and running Flecture exhaust system.

Basically I have done the timing and rebuild my HIF44 carb with a new yellow spring and BDK needle fitted.

All the fueling is fine, as there is a new mechanical fuel pump fitted, new fuel tank and new fuel lines, I also fitted filter king fuel regulator.

Its cylinder head has had the valves re seated and new head gasket fitted.

The ignition is running a standard dizzy with points, I have fitted all new parts in the dizzy, i.e. condenser, rotor arm, ect. There is a new dizzy cap, leads and a non-ballast sports coil fitted.

So basically this is the problem, when we try to start the engine:

All help really appreciated

Cheers

Bobby

You need an electric pump to run a filter king pump. The mechanical one doesn't stand a chance.

Does it run without the regulator?

try some supplementary engine start fluid/spray you should be able to run it for a bit if you can balance the AFR

lol but that dosent really fix the problem as suggested i would go to electric fuel pump i did use the filter king with the su pump and it was fine id suggest a small 1" gauge one a "t" to set/check the regulator as well have you tried winding the adjustment all the way in/out/halfway?

Hi turbo this, I will give that a try as well, winding the fuel reg right down and then giving it a half turn.

Thanks

looks like fuel to me have you tried it with the choke fully on and no throttle?whip the filter off and cover the carb mouth with your hand partially this will cause a high vaccume and draw loads of fuel into the engine may take a few tries to get it right... also i didnt think you needed a reglator with a mechanical fuel pump ditch that and get a facet

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

What have you set the valve gaps at?

Hi Rob, the valve gap is set at 0.32mm

I'm probably off on a tangent but some of the wilder cams need a greater valve gap when using higher ratio rockers.

Why have you fitted a regulator?............

Remove the regulator and then see what happens *wink*

Pull the fuel line off to the carb and see if there is any fuel coming out when cranking. If there is it should start, it really doesnt need much.

There is fuel coming out when I checked on both carb end after the regulator and before the regulator.

Still same issue though

So does using the choke make any difference ?

Adjusting the mixture screw ?

Are the plugs wet or dry ?

The mechanical pump is designed in such a way that you do not need a fuel regulator.

The fuel regulator creates a resistance, that the mechanical pump likely cannot push past

For those above....he says he has fuel flow to the carb confirmed.

So the regulator is not an issue. If the carb is full of fuel, it should still start and run for a good 30 seconds before the bowl would empty even if there was no fuel getting to the carb

maybe so, but what could be easier than trying it without a regulator, that, in the first instance, isn't needed anyway?
