Gents,

I have a rebuilt gt1752 and looking at it was hoping to install it onto the T3 manifold with the same position to install the T3 elbow, i have measured everything u and had a small adaptor piece made which angles the Gt17 and moves it so the exhaust elbow will be pretty much the same angle as standard.

luckilly the gt17 has the same 3 bolt pattern for the elbow as the t3 just on a different angle.

Ive done this to save on making a mirage type manifold and i have the blulkhead box in anyway,.

My car is far from finished, im currently building the engine and was hoping you more experienced guys could pass comment if you think it will work, tips etc.

im aware the T3 elbow can be a pain to clamp but ive crossed that bridge and got a better clamp, although i know thiat doesnt mean it will seal.

im hoping if it works to put a cad drawing or similar of the pieces ive made so others can copy etc.

the pictures dont show the elbow attached.

comments invited.

EDIT.. The turbo is not finished yet, i plan to machine a ring which allows me to rotate the compressor outlet upwards and install the actuator in a different place.

You will end up with a bulkhead extension to get that in not just a box. That adaptor will move the turbo much to far back/down.

Im open to cutting etc if needed to shorten the adaptor, we measured it against the T3 setup and thats how it came out.

When you say extension do you mean down? That was our initial thoughts during fabrication..

I can feel the grinder making an appearence.

Interesting idea.

The compressor will rotae to wherever you want it simply by loosening thebolts around the flange.

the gt17 has a welded lug cast onto it though not like the T3 so you cannot simply rotate it without repositioning the actuator, or the actuator arm being at an angle and possibly effecting its movement. The ring is being machined and should be ready this week.

There's one on the hot side, got rid of that. I cut and ground the actuator bracket of flush with the housing and made a custom actuator brackets. Both where useless to me *wink*

interesting idea - adaptors that might fit standard t3 manifolds/downpipe. to be honnest the reason im sticking with the t3 is mucking around with manifolds/downpipes. im building a new engine over winter, also doing a bit of bodywork, i want to get it on the road for next summer again so t3 stays for now. not enough time to do it all, the car has sat unused for too long!

Cheers for the picture robert, i was thinking sometihing similar.

an update on this is i have measured the standard t3 and the adatped one in as ive angled the adaptor it is pretty much (within a few mm) the same as the T3. only time will tell, im hoping to have most of the engine built next week and will try a dry build to see where its at. Fingers corssed (grinder at the ready).

Ill try an uplaod pics if/when it gets installed.

It does look like it'll end up very low.

You won't be able to use the standard drain.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I've measured the envelope size of the t3 and the gt17 one pictured above is only 10mm longer from flange face to widest part of the turbo, I've no idea how much room there is on a normal setup though so will have to trial it.

Here,s how I mounted my actuator after fitting and rotating the housing.
