The seller says:

Its only been touched on the inlet and exhaust ports, not the combustion chamber.

Is it still usable for a 998cc turbo converison? basically the CR needs to be as original - or so I'm told.

Thanks for all the Peter. Iain said on another thread that a 1275 head could be used also? I'm assuming this would lose the low speed performance the 12g295 would offer?

I got Vizards book deliverd from Amazon only a couple of days ago :p so still reading through that at the mo.

I missed two 12g295's on ebay a couple of weeks ago that went for 41 and 50 pounds :/ Will keep looking.

Is your turbo 998 running now Peter? what sort of bhp / torque are you getting out of it?

So far the setup I''m trying to get together is the following:
12g295
GT15
Metro turbo carb and inlet manifold

I'm waiting for a
Metro turbo fuel pump
Fiesta intercooler

I'm missing a few things from the sourcing I think...

I'd like to get around the 100bhp mark from my mini... is that realistic?

What you could do, is to get a 940 head, raise the roof in the combustion chamber, and you'd probably get away with NOT pocketing the block.
The shorter AEG163 valves could be a good bet, with a little calculation na measuring, this should work brilliantly.
The pocketed block is NOT ideal for a turboconversion, that's for sure.

I also seem to recall that hte 202heads were 28cc... Is that wrong? Anyway, the beak on these heads needs releiving, so increasing the volume shouldn't bee too hard.

Wil and Ben Hill climb theirs though correct? Mine is going to be mainly a road car, I need a bit lower speed torque

If I were you, I'd just buy whatever is easiest to make happen (probably a 12G295) and build your engine and develop it thereafter. You're getting FAR too hung up on details that will ultimately not make any difference - or for that matter care about once that turbo starts boosting!
If you want the low speed torque, Camshafts, CR, turbo selection and ignition mapping is where you'll make the biggest change - not in the slight difference of port diameter between a stock 12G940 and 12G295.

The way I see it is that the 12G295 is an excelent head, and in standard form, 28cc chambers, it make getting the CR right easy.

I use a 12G295 on my everyday road NA 998 motor, and I can't fault it.

It may be true that the 12G295 might be better off boost than a 12G940 but I reckon you'll see little differance.

Anyway, if you're only after 100bhp get the 12G295, if you want more get a 12G940.

Keep in mind that the ammount of air a 998 turbo will be flowing willl be much more like that of a 1275 or bigger when on boost.

I agree with previous postings about the ebay heads, try to find an unmolested casting.
I use a VMax modded 12G295 head on my
998cc ( very impressed with quality) It uses MG Turbo exhausts and 36mm inlets, the chambers are 30cc if I remember correctly.Using the Avonbar phase 2 cam(not very impressed, the standard MG Metro cam is a better choice) the off boost driveability is superb,I use the IHI RHB5 which is tiny, the lag between no boost/boost is fairly smooth but the surge of power as it begins to spool up is staggering for such a small engine.brings a smile to my face every time I drive it.
Remember though you are modifying an engine that origionly made 38bhp,don't expect it to do 100bhp+and still do 10.000miles a year at 40mpg.
