I currently have a good ap rally friction plate but its only 181mm and I noticed you can get 190mm clutche plates? Which one is best? Can you get a high performance 190mm friction plate? If so where from?
Thanks lee

the AP one is fine, but Minispares now sell a fixed center 190mm plate that should be up to the job

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I use the 190mm ap rally plate, cheaper than the 180mm one, and seems fine.

I'm using the 190mm from Minispares. It's not slipped yet at 200 bananas.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

hello!
been put onto this forum by another member. I'm running a N/A mini on throttle bodies knocking out over 130horses, and like what a lot of you guys have had, is issues with clutch slip. I'm running an ultralight pre-verto fly and back plate with an orange diaphragm, with a Minispares sintered plate.

Looking throughout the forum, it appears I need to be looking at going for the RTS set-up, but can anyone confirm if my existing friction plate would be OK for this set-up? From what I have read it appears to be, but just want some clarification...

thanks!

Matt

well....

first off, if your making 130 horses NA your not going to have as much torque as 130 hp turbo'd as you'll be making it furthur up the rev range,

also you wont get an RTS particuarly light so I'd suggest sticking with the pre verto and finding a pressure plate that is strong enough,

Has the back plate been machined to get the spring flat to maximise the clamping pressure?

I'd try the grey diaphragm on the flywheel you have first and make sure its set so the spring is flat. a 130hp NA A Series engine is going to be a high rpm engine and the RTS clutch is a bit on the heavy side. That said, there is no reason you could not use such a heavy flywheel on a high reving engine as it would have other benefits on a standing start launch for example.
