is there anywhere on the net that can tell me what an engine is from its number?

theres an engine that i have been given that has 950 cast into the block and its painted in a weird gold colour unlike the factory or goldseal paints

just wondering what it was

You need the engine code off the plate at the head face to identify it really. The 950 on the block is just a casting number, don't think it relates to much but may mean something to someone?
