I'm just wondering if anyone could help out working out whether my block that is decked to 21253 pistons would work with omegas forged 18cc pistons or if they would sit too high. Ideally I don't want to have to get a new block but if it doesn't work I'll have to.

21253s are hugely tall - I had to have .045" lopped off the top of mine !
Metric is for people who can't do fractions. |

Did you fit the omegas then? |

Most aftermarket pistons I have installed sit between 0.060" and 0.040" down the bore on a standard height block, those include 21253's, Minispares Mega's, Accralite forged and Oldschool Omega's On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

My 0.020" cast omegas where 0.040" down the bore. I had 0.030" taken of my block to get the CR sensible. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

I think the compression height on those two should be quite similar. You could have the pistons turned in a lathe though, if a problem. On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

why do the pistons sit so far down the block? On 10th Mar, 2012 theoneeyedlizard said:
Hypothetically speaking, where would you stick your nozzle? On 22nd Jun, 2012 apbellamy said:

why do the pistons sit so far down the block? It makes it easy for the amature engine builder to set the compression ratio to suit the cam with off the shelf parts. any decent engine builder would set the pistons flush with the top of the block and set the compression ratio to suit the cam by machining the head to suit. I don't know exactly how much has come off the block just that it is flush with the pistons. Which are 21253's. |
