I have just got a metro turbo engine with the engine number 99h79, I can't find this on any of the sheets, but 99 sounds like a 998 to me. It is definetly a 1275 and has been modified in a few ways, has someone just put a different engine number on it or are there metro turbos with that number?

Has it got tappet chest covers on the back of the block, or is that area cast in solid? Tappet covers = 998cc, solid = 1275cc, assuming you ignore the 'S' engines.

Looking at it, it is a real mishmash of numbers. It has a 12g940 head on it which I assume rules out the fact it is a 998. On the block there are no numbers on the front but on the back it says WFM024. That is as much as I can tell at the moment. I don't think it has a turbo head on it as the inlet and exhausts are the same size.

Having a 12G940 head does not rule out it being a 998 completely!

There is no tappet cover and also the block and head are red. On the back of the engine at the bottom of the engine it has WFM1024 which is the same as my genuine metro turbo engine so I am now assuming that it is a genuine turbo engine but without the correct turbo valves/head.
