right. got the mini all sorted to try and start it tonight. plugged in the laptop and connected to the canems ignition. i set the map up using a map from on here as a starter. but can i fuck get the bastard to start. i have fuel and its getting to the plugs as theyre wet. i have a good spark going to the plugs too. anyone any ideas. spec as follows.

canems igniton with ford coil and vr sensor(shielded)
new bpr8es plugs and new KA leads
rebuilt hif44 arb converted to turbo
set the timing to 6 degrees and set the static timing to 7 teeth and 9 teeth. also tried everywhere around the figures too.
dont appear to have any airleaks
std dump valve is blanked off in the plenum
running an intercooler and bailey dump valve if that matters

im running low on patience now.

Check the timing with a timing light. to see if it is actually sparking where it should spark

Not sure I understand setting the 7 0r 9 tooth thing. That would depend on the settings in the Canems

if the plugs are wet it may be over fueling/flooded. you will need to leave the plugs out and let the fuel evapourate for a while.

other than that i can only say re-check the ignition timing?

and when you say good spark, what colour is the spark?

Are you sure the leads from the coil pack are the right way around?

the coil pack is numbered 1 to 4. i have connected 1 to plug 1, 2 to plug 2 ect ect

it was a good powerful spark. couldnt see the colour though

the teeth thing is similar to megajolt. set the missing tooth and then count on the trigger wheel.

BPR8 plugs won't make your life easy, try 6's to get it running, then use colder plugs IF you need to.

will try and get some tomorrow jamie cheers. its not even backfiring. just turning over. not sure on the fuel pressure yet. would that make much difference to get it to even splutter??

confirm the spark is sparking where it is supposed to using the timing light as you would normally! THEN look at other things when its checked out good

take the plug out of no 1 ,put it on its lead and earth it ,then take a big screwdriver and hold its handle up against the plug hole ,and get someone to spin the engine over ,the chuff of gas squeezing out past the handle is compression ,see if the spark on the plug tip happens at that point .

ahhh. thats a good idea too.
so far:- change plugs for 6's, check spark and compression are at same time, try and get a timing light onto the timing marks,

As it's wasted spark, there is a chance it's all firing 180 degrees out. So a quick check is to swap the leads. put 1&4 on 2&3.

You say you have the crank sensor at 7 or 9 teeth. Not sure what the canems needs, but 9 is usual as it's 90 degrees. I presume you have the engine at TDC on number 1 compression stroke and the the gap set 9 teeth beyond the sensor. That is it won't see the gap for another 270 degrees of engine rotation.

will try that too will. wasnt sure if it was if the timing was out. when #1 is tdc the pickup sensor is 7 teeth after the missing tooth. didnt check if it was compression stroke though because i was getting ratty with it. i hate ignition setups.

As will says, set the engine at TDC on the firing stroke on number 1
Then It needs to be pointing to number 9 tooth. At the crank sensor and the your gap on the trigger wheel will be about eleven o'clock. looking at the end of the crank,...... hope this makes sense.

looking at the 'front' of the engine (the end with the fan and pullies) the crank rotates clockwise. The sensor should be before the missing tooth, not after it at TDC
