Should the 1st/2nd syncro hub centre part that sits on the main shaft be able to slide about 5mm between the gap between the 1st gear collar and 3rd gear.

You can see a step in this photo.

Its been a while since I build a gearbox and cant remember if the whole assembly be able to slide on the shaft.

Apologies for the description, if you cant understand it i'll try to rewrite it!

Have you tightened the pinion nut?

Ignore the post, this was a moment of insanity. I think due to a 12 hour day in the garage. Its sorted now!
