Hello guys,

I taxed my car in historic tax class as its registered 1/1/1973, I had a letter from DVLA saying that my car is not available for historic tax class as its registered 1/1/1973 and its for cars registered before then. I found the INF34 form that states if its registered up to 7/1/1973 then it is considered to be made in the previous year, which I showed the geezer at the local office which he sent off with my V5 to be changed.

I purchased a "dating letter" from the heritage certificates site, it does however say that between 69 and 77 they don't have many records for the mini and can only provide a build date.

What I want to know is:

Will the heritage people be able to actually provide me with the info I need as it says records are limited.

Why hasn't the DVLA accepted the INF34 document THEY produced

Can I claim the £22 back off the DVLA for the certificate

Is there a chance my car was finished building and registered on the same day on 1/1/1973

Cheers

Craig

Edit: Roughly how long will I have to wait for the certificate as well, should I ring DVLA on 27th and tell them im waiting on a certificate to send to them so I dont get my taxed status removed from the car

hi mate hope i dont have the same probs as my mini was registered 5/1/73 but im about 2 yrs off completion, as i understand it they should recognise the inf34 doccument ,as both yours and mine were built in 72, also if its a proper heritage certificate you have it should state yr of build ,i believe the proper certificate from them costs around 39 pounds mate

Hello mate

Herritage site says all i can get is build date so I didnt see any point in getting the certificate at £66

I think what my problem is theres no manufacture date on dvla system and so they arnt recognising it as manufactered in 72.

I dont know I plan to write a letter, print off copies of dating letter and inf34 and send it all to dvla.

Edit:

I dont have dating letter yet as i only sent off for it this morning

i always thought that if it was built pre 1/1/73 then it got free tax.

i emailed heritage with the details of my 73 clubby but unfortunately it was built in may 73 :(

Is the car a genuine MK3 or are you just dating the '73 registration?

id wait and see what comes back from dvla mate ,i will certainly use the form inf34 because its for cars registered up to 7/1/73 so yours and mine are tax free, if it comes to the point where ive finished my car and they dont reccognise the form inf34 il be consulting a solicitor to deal with the dvla ,as i feel very strongly that someone or several persons at dvla are not doing there jobs properly ,rant over

give em hell

it might be interesting to know that its not when the car was registered i think but when the car was made.

for example i was looking at a car that was registered i think in 1980, but it was still classified as historic when you put it on the DVLA website. i did call up and ask as it was a mk1 shell but for obvious reasons she couldnt disclose to much as i wasnt the owner only an interested party. However she confidently said numerous times that it would not charged tax if it were to apply for it.

prob irrelevant but i think thats what was the deal from my bad aging memory.

ps... yeh wait for the form :)

Craig should be alright then. His car looks to have been made in the late 80's early 90's *hehe!*
