Evening all,

I just want to find out, I had a look on the forum but cannot seem to find what I am looking for?

Basically I am building my turbo engine and wanted to find out can I use a standard 1275 Mini/Metro gearbox or should it be a Turbo metro one that I need? I want to run straight cuts in there with a X-Pin Diff, but this is when funds come available.

So can you please tell me, will I be ok to run a standard box for the time being? If so, as stated before, the standard box or the turbo box?

Thanks for all the help

Bobby

oh ok cheers for that info, I have a guy selling a box and diff, he has 2 options a 2.7 and 3.1 diff, which one would be a better option?

Whilst mechanically the fit will be fine, I very quickly broke a standard box with my turboed 1293. I'd recommend being conservative on power and hard usage until you get those straight cuts in. Also, I'd go for a 3.1 diff, certainly over the 2.7. All depends what you want though, top speed or acceleration. I'm doing a rebuild at the moment and intend to plump for a 3.1 over a 3.4 as a compromise so I have a slightly lower RPM for cruising and hopefully don't run out of top speed when I do some of the larger track day events.

Whats the planned usage?

For an everyday road car I would go for 3.1:1

For a weekend/track car a 3.44:1.

Also whats the planned power output? Standard helical boxes can be killed very quickly!

That was a big help, I may go for the 2.7, as this better on 10's for top end speed and quite good on acceleration

It will take a lot of revs to get you moving

Well I managed to get both 2.7 and 3.1 now in the deal i just got, so may just go with the 3.1, which will probably be a better option, as I am not always going to be doing top end speed.
