Well nothing to do with cars for a change. My laptop died recently and in the process I lost everything due to not backing up.

All my music and videos are still on my iPhone 4. What I would like to know is if its possible to transfer the phone content onto my new laptop? I've had a look on the net and it seems I may have to buy some software but cant really find anything recent!

Any help much appreciated.

Ron

They will probably give you back anything that you bought from them, but if like me you have ripped a lot of music off CD's you own then you won't get those back.
What is dead on laptop, best way might be to dismantle it to get the hard drive out, then you can buy a cheap case to turn the hard drive into an external USB hard drive to get your data off it.

Any purchases you made will automatically be available when you log into iTunes on your new machine. If you pay £20 odd per year you can back up from your phone to iCloud then download all other content from there

The computer just stopped working. It man says the hard disc has died so has been able to remove it and recover data. I will try the iTunes route and see what happens!

Yeah there's plenty of iPod ripping software out there that will get most the data off your phone!

You can get the music and videos off the iphone this way. I did this with my mom and dads iPod. Go into the iphone folder under my computer. Then unhide folders, and you will see the folder where your music and videos are. The music and videos will be named weird but itunes will see them as what they should be so don't worry about the names. Then copy the folders into your iTunes folder or where ever you want the music and videos. And finally add the folder in iTunes. If you have any questions just pm me.

This happened to me a few weeks before Xmas. I figured out a free way of doing it. DO NOT plug your phone into a blank Itunes as this will resync and wipe everything. First go on Itunes setting and diable automatic syncing. Then plug in your phone and set it to disk mode. On your laptop, go into libraries, edit the setting to show hidden files. Then click on the phone and you will find the hidden music files. Copy this folder onto your laptop and 1 by one import each file. It took me a good hour but I recovered every peice of music I lost, both CD burend and Itunes bought. Works a treat :)

had to do the same thing for a friend at the weekend, older versions of itunes had option to backup Ipod but it was removed on later versions. You can recover the music of the Ipod with a program called copytrans, it lets you copy off 100 songs, or you can buy the full edition for like 20 dollars or something, I found a rar file that was cracked and copied off the whole 1100 songs on there no problem. search for copytrans keygen.

I dont see any point in buying software when you can easily do it yourself for free????

could you not make an ubuntu boot disk using a usb stick and try see if you can access the hard drive that way once you use the usb stick as your boot drive. my uncles laptop stopped working randomly and that worked for us.
