Im gonna be fitting a new kitchen at some point in the coming year but was thinking of fitting my old units in the garage as storage.

Has anyone done this? Just wondering how good they would be in that environment

I seriously doubt it!

Did it many years ago when I was but a boy. Worked OK for storage, but the one that had the 'bench' on it didn't last too long.

I don't like base units - they're too deep and rarely used shit gathers at the back.

Wall units are good though especially for stuff you don't want covering in the usual garge dust and crap. I used to have wall units stacked 3 wide by 3 high, with the top ones with no doors on as open shelves.

Warwick.

Iv been looking, on and off, for some wall units for the garage. I have a nice stainless work bench to work on but want some storeage for some stuff i dont wish to get covered in grinding dust.
Iv priced up a nice metal wall unit from the likes of rapid racking and i almost shat myself at the cost for some folded tin

The ony thing I will say about the chipboard kitchen units, is if they are there long enough with conceled sections, mice will breed.

I've had as et of Wickes' cheapie base uints as a workbench for about six years now, with a 30mm worktop as the surface. Not had any real issues other than the 1000 base unit going bendy in the middle as I overloaded the shelves. Didn't affect the carcase integrity, but I'd only ever use 500 base units in the future.

Transplanted my old kitchen wall units to my industrial unit and had to leave the doors off for beam clearance. Nice for manuals, PPE etc but wouldn't put anything bulky in them.

Costco does the best value steel racking I've found - better than Big Dug, Machine Mart etc - in terms of size for price. Nice crackle grey/black finish and take lot of weight.
Don't be tempted by any of the big deep wire-based shelves though, they can't take the advertised weight without buckling.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Cheers for the replies.

I was looking to use the wall cabinets for cans, drill bits, manuals etc - just the clutter, with a huge roll cab without wheels under a new workbench for tool storage, spare parts etc will go in the shed when its built

I seriously doubt it!

Wall units are perfect for storage, all my odds and sods like WD40 and the like, plus manuals, gaskets and general junk fill them.

Mine are covered in stickers that come when you buy car things, makes them look more garagey.

I'm using some kitchen style units storage and a bench and they work fine. I would recommend securing the workbench and floor units to the garage wall with some L brackets or similar. Just makes it a bit more sturdy.

Will get a picture up today.
