can someone help me by telling me how to set the mixture screw correctly. i thought it was screw right in, then back it off 2 turns? that correct? sorted out the fuel pipework now and got 3.5psi going into the carb ok. pressure still holds with the pump off too and can see fuel in the jet so the float seems ok. if i pour a little fuel into the carb it will fire straight away, but wont with the dashpot fitted.

also, whats the best oil to put in the dashpot just in case mine isnt right.

cheers

What you have done will get you started. But you will need to adjust it further.

Theres a proper SU oil for the damper. If not 20/50 oil will work.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

You need to set the jet height so it is flush with the bridge (dashpot off) and then screw down 1½-2 turns.
If you screw it all the way in the jet will happily stick up well past the bridge, and the two turns back may not even get it below.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

tried both of them. no joy. poured some fuel into the carb dashpot hole and refitted the dashpot. it tried to start, then just kept turning over.
so now im thinking im not getting any fuel from the jet on cranking. i have 3.5psi into the float chamber and the jet is new and unblocked. i have set the height. only thing i can think of is wrong needle, dashpot sticking when fitted, air leak which i have checked and cant seem to see, or its fucking cursed!

take dashpot off so you can see the jet and block / kink the return line briefly with the pump on fuel may well squirt out the jet, ( you could wind the fpr right in to increase the pressure)

just a thought, i had a sticky float valve

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*
