Where does everyone stand on the extra oil mag? Is it just something that you cant get to to clean at a later date....

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

dont like the idea of them. surely they will collect the swarf up and then let it go in clumps when it builds up? also it collects there insead of in the sump so on a new oil change half the swarf is stick to this magnet ready to be circulated in your new oil. just my thoughts. i am going to try a magnom (or whatever it is called) trap that spins on between the filter and housing, available from min-its

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

my thought are the same as welshdan,

go for the mag trap and also on a hi working motor blank the bypass of on the filter head 5/8 UNF after removing the ball and seat the hole is the right size to run the tap in ...... use a hex plug with a little forgiving studlock

Somewhere around Swindon

I dont see why it would do any harm you just unscrew it and give it a clean when you do your oil and filter changes and clean the sump plug

Yep it was the location that I was thinking might be the problem, and the fact it might block the hole a bit too.

. I think the one around the filter might be a better idea. I doubt it can harm...

have a magnom for years. unbelievable what swarf it trappes. it is a peace of shit to clean out though. but i have one on every engine i run.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

North of the Netherlands

I have read about people stick high strength magnets on the outside of the oil filter this way swarf sticks to inside of oil filter where magnets are.(?)

Dazed and Confused....

Just get a sump plug with a magnet. You run the risk of obstructing the oil flow to the pump with the other one.

If the swarf has got to the filter, then the damage is done. Chances are your oil pump is fooked...

I guess the best is a remote filter taken from the same point, and then a Magnom thingy on that.

There are some things to consider with remote filters though, such as location to prevent them draining back etc. Think Rod S had some thoughts on this on a very old post.

If you have enough swarf in your box to cause damage, chances are it's time for a rebuild anyway...

do a search, pre pump filterts have been discussed and was agreed to be a no no for more than one reason.

As for the magnetic oil trap in the pickup pipe, I'd rather not use one. It will only be capturing particles that the oil pump can easily pass without damage, eventually ending up in the filter where it belongs. The oil pump is not the issue really is it?.

I do fit magnets into the bottom of the gearbox, infact the magnets I use are from Ford MT75 gearboxes for the same intended purpose. I also use a mag trap around the oil filter can.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
