Hi all,

I just wanted to get some advise. Basically I bought a turbo block to do my conversion, so I have stripped my turbo block down, all pistons out, I was looking at the bores. They look quite good , no scoring or pitting in the bores only a bit of surface rust.

Now my question is what is the best way to clean the bores, before putting the pistons back in?

Cheers

Bobby

A hone,

check for any signs of a step at the top of the bore caused by the top ring

Take it to a machine shop, you will just fook it up. Cost me £20 last time i had one done.

Yeah was thinking about that as my hand may slip when doing and I probably will fook it up, rather just pay £20 to someone to get it done

I had a go in a block that wanted boring. It didn't go well.

It's the sort of thing that needs to be done properly otherwise you will find yourself with your engine in bits again

failing that, theres rob walker over in oxon

Also theres ML motorsport near gravesend (AC Dodd), they have a very good rep but I know for a fact they just use a hand hone.

i would pay for a shop to do it its not the cleaning the bores thats the problem its the shape of 'scratches' that the honing leaves bohind, it needs to be that shape to promote the rotation of the piston rings

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

I'd use a machine shop til, but if doing it myself, I wouldn't use the hone mentioned above. Use a flex hone.
