hi, i have done a search but couldnt find anything.

due to the even hotter engine bays on a turbo charged setup in a mini, does anyone wrap their intercooler hoses?

i appreciate that the air flow through the hoses is very fast. i did wonder if anyone had tried an exhaust type insulation wrap, or reflective insulation tape as per these?

i use a maestro plenem, so the cold air pipe from the intercooler runs across the back of the rocker cover, above the inlet manifold and turbo

wonder if anyone has any thoughts or experiance on this?

cheers, dan

Only way to find out if it works is to stick a temp sender in the pipe and measure before and after.

I'd have thought that the improvement would be negligible though.

I have wrapped the I/C pipe from turbo to I/C as it passes pretty close to the manifold in my installation.

I would have thought due to the low surface area and speed of air flow the heat exchanged will be minimal i did consider this when doing my pipes and just made them all out silicone and its rather good at insulating

yeah you have to consider temps...

after the inter cooler should be pretty cool so it may be worth wrapping especially if close to an exhaust, before the inter cooler is probably going to be pretty hot so it is probably best to not wrap it so it can give some heat....

that said, with the amout of pipe work in a mini it will probably make next to fuck all difference

^^This was my thought, after the IC maybe a gain, before best left to get rid of heat.

I was more concerned that the exhaust manifold heat would affect the silicone hose !

Yes I understand you have done it for protection rather than performance gain.

The silicon hoses that run near my exhaust have discoloured, but otherwise seem ok.

I used to wrap the air filter to turbo pipe...

Whether it worked or not is anyone's guess!

Yep deffo worth doing at any point a hose gets near the manifold/turbo,

Also I think Jons onto something with the turbo inlet pipe, its the lowest air temperature point so would be mst vunerable.

easier thing would to be keeping the heat in the turbine though.

best way is to have a pocket of air between the outside of the hose and a reflective material. not sure it exists yet??
