I've got a smiths temperature guage very similar to this one -

http://www.thegaugeshop.com/shop/article_6...9%26aid%3D69%26

- and it sits ever so close to the hot end, the temperature at the thermostat is 86deg.C. I have the voltage stabiliser conected properly, as the petrol tank guage is reading right.

I've checked the temperature at the thermostat just after a spirited drive, when the guage says it's time to start crapping yourself it's so hot. But the temperature on the thermostat housing is about right.

Just wondering how to get the needle more in the middle? if the temp switch is broken or what?

Cheers

Matt

did the sender com with the gauge? IIRC there are a couple of different senders...

Also check what the voltage is doing to the gauge, some voltage regs have an odd function (pulseing to give a 10v average)

Joe, do you have a photo of your tool?

Depending on where the N is set, some gauges do read a bit high.

With the N set for a 74° stat an 88° stat will cause the temp to appear a tad high.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

You need to be sure you are using the correct sender for that gauge.

Just because it might look similar to an old gauge you may have had, doesnt mean the sender it requires is the same. It will only take a small change in resistance to throw it off.

Do you have any means of testing temperature to ensure the gauge isnt actually correct either ? ie a infra rad gun or something ?

Thanks Gents,

Alex, what do you mean by the N?

Steve, I was using a laser thermometer job on the thermostat housing.

I'll put a multimeter behind the guage tomorrow, and see if I have the 10V.
But I'm guessing it's a case of a new sender switch.

N for Normal - most gauges that don't have a number scale just have C - N - H.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.
