To start with im not a pro with all of the tools i use what i have and can get hold of easaly on a tight

Right what do people use for drilling/cutting holes and types of angle grinders and cutting equipement.

Is use

+Hole saws - reasonably good but leave chatter marks when not in a pillar drill

+Step drill bits - brilliant for holes it pannels but not good for when you want a big hole with a tight back space

+Chissels blunt tip and sharp tip - blunt good for removing pannels after drilling out spot welds, sharp useful for cutting through metal cleanly for small bits when you dont want to file after

+Metal files - for finishing after cutting, smoothing holes, for filing away metal to make cool looking tear drops in pannels

+Angle grinder - cutting pannels out, finishing with flap disks, removing paint and cleaning up with wire wheels, sand disks for finishing off welds

now i want to make reasonable size holes in some pannels with a small back space, i prefer using step drill bits for clean holes but they are too long for the gap, holes saws are not very neet does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks paul

Are these the ones that are like flaring/swag tools?

There might be cheaper out there, but it gives you an idea of what's available.

What sort of drill are you using?

I have one of these which allows me to get into some quite tight spaces.

Fits in the chuck of your normal drill.

I use a bosh corded drill, only one place i found difficulty to use it so i cut the pannel out to save weight and to drill the hole i wanted lol, also a bosh battery drill but thats not as powerful.

Is the panel still on a car, or is it a panel sitting on the bench ?

You can get hole cutters that have a central pilot bit and the normal round cutting head. But the outside body is also fluted and these cut a very neat hole. Damned if I know the name of them though. I have one here, but it came as part of a kit for drilling a sump in-situ.
