Hi all,

As some you guys may be aware, I am doing a turbo conversion in my clubby estate.

Now my question is where is the best place to put a return fuel line on the estate tank? Also do weld a nut (like a banjo, I think this is what its called) to the tank and then attach the pipe to the "nut" or do I just weld the pipe directly to the tank?

All help is really appreciated.

Thanks

Bobby

If you can't or don't want to weld you could always go back into the suction of the pump.

Unless your any good at welding I'd look at brazing or silver soldering it,

mig joints thats are start stop welded byu beginers are often not air/vapor tight and this is none place that it needs to be.

by all means use a nut, but rather than a banjo use a proper screw in union if you have room as the banjo will be restrictive and may affect the fuel pressure.

alternativly you can T back into the fuel feed from the pump to the tank.

Joe, do you have a photo of your tool?

I screwed a union into the filler neck.

I tee'd my return back into the fuel line before the fuel pump, works fine and saves having to mess about with putting it back into the fuel tank.

Don't know if it helps but I've had a 'low' spot put into the end of the tank for a supply and am using the original supply for the return:

I've put an in-line filter in, with the supply point being so low in the tank, before the fuel pump:

I know of one clubman which had an MPi fuel pump set into the tank but decided this wasn't for me.

As these guys have said, add a tee before the pump. Time saved and no welding.

The picture below shows this, it looks a little grainy on my iPhone.

So Mossey2a this is basically the return feed between the tank and the in-line fuel filter with a t-piece?

That is probably the simplest way of doing things

Cheers

that outlet looks very vulnerable and exposed to me; my thoughts are with road debris being kicked up from the rear tyre?

The problem with that is that when low on fuel round a left had bend it'll have no fuel in it.

This won't be a big problem if you have a carb, but if using FI, your engine will stop.

I used the original take off, using a 'lifter' pump into a swirl pot. then used the high pressure pump to the injectors. When I'm low on fuel you can hear the lifter pump 'rattle' as it sucks in air. The lifter pump will happly survive without fuel in, but the roller vane pumps need fuel inside or they risk siexing up.

And here is a diagram of how it all connects.

Swirl pot, all explained in the diagram.

Black thing is 'lifter pump' and fills the swirl pot. Then the high pressure pump takes it feed from the bottom of this. The fuel returns to the top of the swirl pot, then any overflow goes back to the filler neck.

It stops any surge issues.
