I guess it depends how much you will realistically use it. I bought a cheapo £40 B&Q one years ago, for the odd bit I have needed to use it, it has been fine. It came with both 1/4" and 1/2" collets to accept different router bits.

I'd echo Tom's comments; I bough a pro-tool one from B&Q a good few years ago - if i recall it was seriously reduced at the time as it is the only reasdon i'd have bought a budget tool.

depends what your intending on using it for,for work ive got a 1/2 makita 3612 and its brilliant for kitchen worktops (joints and drainers) and has been used for this for the last 2 years and never let me down... for smaller work i use a bosch palm router 1/4 600w which has also been faultless. both 240v Avon 2010 class c 3rd

As a carpenter i much prefur a trimmer (one handed router) to a full on router, i think wortops and heavy stuff aside its much more versatile, and quicker as it saves you time due to not needing to clamp things. But i dont think any of the cheap makes do them, and at around 140 quid its probably not justified if your not in the trade. On 17th Feb, 2011 apbellamy said:
