Hi peeps,
I am in the middle of fitting my engine back into my mini after its resto, however I have now came to the point of installing fuel lines. Can I run reinforced rubber lines internally or does it have to be braided to do this??
Hope someone can help,

Betwix Harrogate and York

For MSA use it will need to be braided. Not sure about the MOT.

But personally, for a road car, I'd run them in copper under the car. Only rally cars really benefit running stuff internally, or cars with significant aero.

Internal hoses should be teflon so reduce the chances of the car stinking of petrol.

Braided means nothing in that respect, as a lot of braided hose is just nitrile rubber with the braided sheath so will still stink.

So either teflon or solid metal if the hoses are internal.

Thanks for replies. Like most turbo mini nuts on here I am building a track/ weekend car' so I just wanted to be clear on where I stood before I run the lines inside. Ie: mot restrictions and msa rules if I was to ever compete in motorsport.
Thanks again for your help. I can always rely on the forum for its wisdom!! *happy*

Hello and welcome DV
Depending on where you live, you may find different regs and rules with MSA and MOT.
MOT(NCT in Ireland) will not allow internal lines for example.
It is always helpful to closely examine the regs for any class you feel you may aspire to, especially when you are at the build stage and can make the proper changes with ease. It is far more difficult/painful/frustrating/expensive to change things later.

Some cars have their fuel lines run internally from the factory. One being virtually every Subaru ever built. They run along the passenger sill, steel lines all internal with just plastic trim/carpet covering them

In motorsport it is preferred to run them internally to keep them out of harms way, especially rally cars etc.
