Hi Chaps,

My Min has the original center speedo and wonder if i can change the internals to magnolia or if i need to bite the bullet and but a new speedo and guages?

Also while i am on the subject of Speedos. Getting the MPH acurate. I have a turbo engine and the gearbox final drive is 3.2. I do not have a speedo drive in the box at the moment but i am guessing that i can not use the one that was in my 998cc? Where can i get a correct speedo drive?
Is this something i need to consider if i am buying a new speedo as i realise you can them with higher mph.

Hope you uys can point me in the right direction!

I was scratching my head as to why somebody wanted Mongolian dials. Lamb maybe, but not dials.

As for your speedo drive, bang your details in this and it will tell you what to get:

http://www.guess-works.com/Tech/ratio.htm

He can supply them or you can trawl the interweb for them.

Is the speedo drive refered to as the worm and pinion?

yes. You have a worm gear and a pinion:

Ok,

Thank you for your help. The bottom picture is the part that speedo connects to, is this the worm gear or pinion?

Also if i order the correct part for the speedo to read correctly which bit do you get the worm gear or pionion?

Thanks again

Bottom one is the pinion. You will need to get one of each that works for your setup. e.g. a 7/17 would be a 7 tooth worm drive and a 17 tooth pinion.

Ok that good to know.

Can u change the pinion with the engine and gear box in place? I know the speedo cable is a tricky one to get to but wondered if it's been done by others.

just the side of this topic/thread jack hope no one minds its kinda related..?

i wanted to get my speed o correct also im fine with the gearing part right but as for identifying the clock its self i did look for the numbers witch are on (http://www.guess-works.com/Tech/speedo.htm)

i had no luck? can i assume there is only one type of triple clubby cluster? buy the way its in KPH
its the club an triple cluster (speed) (fuel/temp) (rpm) i didnt go as far as takeing the thing apart tho all i took off was the black ring and glass =S
rainy day job to pull the lot and count teeth..

im on 13x6" mini lights 175/50r13 soon to be 12x5" (13" imo handle grate but road use is poo)
1:1 23/24 i think? straight cuts
ST close ratio straight cut gear set
3.76 or 17/64 semy straight diff witch is probably to lively for a turbo 1150cc but ill see if i like it ?

witch makes 1st gear 40mph @6500rpm, 2nd 60mph @6500rpm, 3rd 80mph @6500, 4th 102mph @6500rpm and curze in 4th 60mph @3840rpm

Its all doable, just fiddly.

The numbers on the clocks are obscured by the cowel.

hmm i must have looked in the wrong places or its not there like the web page says for later models it wasn't printed on the face as i have just read lol ether way its a im bored / its raining job to count all those small gears as explained on the web page.

not a problem its more so me thinking out loud/letting ppl know the link is there?

back the the thread i think your best bet is to look for the numbers on your clock hopefully its an early one? so they are printed on it vs haveing to count gears..

plug that into geuseworks and you should see a pair of numbers in the graff to hopefully get a match or close to with a ratio to buy some gears = )

Thanks chaps. As soon as I but a speedo I'll do the calculation and get them ordered.
Hoping to be able to change them with engine in place though!
