Hey all....

Have any of you restored any headlights on any of your cars? On my 5 series they are a bit yellowed and foggy so brought a headlight restoration kit on eBay made by 'Quixx' which arrived today. It's a kit that contains a polish, sanding papers (2000, 3000 & 5000 grit), sanding block, cloths and a headlight sealer.
Basically you wet sand the crap off and polish and hey presto!!

Well.... Not too impressed really... I sanded for ages, side to side, up and down, polished and scrubbed and they just looked the same as I started! Then it started to rain and it was cold so packed up and made a cup of tea! (and swore a bit too).

Watched a few clips on YouTube and everyone swears by it, they make it look too easy! They should come round here and get stuck in!

Anyone used this product or something similar?

i did on my passat, used a meguiars kit, came with a drill mounted polishing mop, but no sand paper, one headlight came up a treat but the other not so well, but i suspect if i had used really fine sandpaper before polishing, it would have worked alot better

I cleaned up the units on my old audi. Didn't use any fancy kit though. Used G3 cutting compound and the polishing mop. It made a huge difference to the lights

Yeah was looking at those buffing pads you attach to a drill... Might be more effective...

done tonnes, i sand with 2000 grit till the wash off from the wet and dry paper is white rather than yellowish, then g3, then g10. to be ohnest if you have the patience it can be done with just time and a cutting compound :)

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Evolution.... So after you have sanded with the 2000 grit, you buff in the G3 & G10 with a polishing cloth? That usually does it?

Just saw some guy on YouTube using 600 grit paper... Surely that would fook the headlights altogether?

Basically, sans off the yellow stuff, then sand/polish with increasingly finer compounds. I'd expect the only eay your goung to get a quick result is to use a machine polisher

I've done this a few times with the same technique as others have listed,

But especially on mates Astra gti, they seemed yell on the inside so it would only get so good!

Is this about the crome bowl where the lamp dkts in? Can you deperate the glass from the bowl?

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

alot of modern cars lights are plastic, and the majority of those go yellow/milky with age luckily its only the surface and can be polished off
