I am about to install the turbo to my ERA. Checking everything over I came to the exhaust manifold. The centre pipe flange sits slightly out of line with the outer pipes, so when offered up to the head the outer pipe flanges sit on the head the centre one is stood off by 25thou. The surface of the centre flange is also a little pitted. The surface the turbo bolts to is also a bit rough.
Can they be machined or am I being a bit paranoid?

The centre one always recedes. You can get them flatted off.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I had mine done on a surface grinder. If you do get the exhaust to exhaust housing faces done aswell.

Got it done at Lockside Engineering Castleford dead easy. All mating surfaces perfect.

Thanks

It was £40 that was both head side and turbo side.

The problem I have now is finding the studs the right size. I have a tap marked 3/8 NC 16 that fits the tapped holes perfectly and the nuts. I got some 3/8 UNC 16 and they slop about very loose. NC UNC is this the problem. NC disappeared in the 40s I think, surely these studs are not that old. Can anyone help?

The studs into the manifold are M10.

16 threads per inch equals a metric pitch of 1.58, the M10 pitch is 1.5 so very close.

3/8" is 9.52mm so again close, but nearly 0.5mm down on M10 which is why your 3/8 studs are sloppy.
