Seeing as everyone else is posting up pictures of their new projects, i'd thought i should join in too. I toyed with the idea of selling my mk1 fiesta and getting another mini, while i still had some money in the bank. The misses persuaded me to do it. So the fiesta went to its new some last weekend. And on saturday i picked up this beast:

Its 1980, 1098 i was told its done 52,000 but the clock clearly says 5,200! The engine goes well enough though so that'll do me.

The only non standard bits are the wheels and piccadilly front seats. And the gay LEDs but they'll be going. And yes that is a vinyl roof...

Plans are to upgrade to electronic ignition, upgrade to halogen head lights. I may put it onto S disks, im unsure just yet. Il put some new wheels on and some standard plastic arches. And im on the hunt for some original front seats or someone who can recover my current ones. Engine wise im gonna pop a stage 1 kit on and maybe a decent head in the future.

Most of that is reversible so fair enough, but to drill holes to fit plastic arches would ruin it and cannot easily be put back. If you want to put S discs on then get S offset minilites which will still go under the standard steel shell without needing arches on it. See Simons Mk1 for example.

I'd agree with Tom; don't go drilling holes is a good shell if you can help it

Il have a look at that tom, as you say its all stuff that can be reversed nothing drastic! Just ordered the brit part electronic ignition kit, so that'll be a job for leave next month.

Thought id do an update on this. Im always lurking on the forum, and tend to reply now and again. So i bought this in 2013 I think. Drove it around for a bit, it burned more oil then petrol and overheated a bit.

Summer 2013 I came back up to Carlisle for leave. Cars MOT was due and it failed me and friend who tested it corrected what was needed, and he AHEM over looked a couple of bits with it being a mini. I couldnt get him to retest it after someone decided to try and break into it. They tried the door and then just slashed the sunroof. So i tried taking it for a retest and it failed again, after this is sat on my mother in laws drive way feeling sorry for itself.

Between now and then, moved to Windsor, left the Army, moved back to Cumbria, and moved a couple more times since. And had a baby, and just had our second on boxing day.

The plan was to make it a hot 1098. I got benross to build me a short engine and box. But with time constraints etc i never got it running. So how does the turbo come about? Well i have this estate and another mini that has the turbo engine. I cant afford to do both minis, and they are sat on the drive under covers. The Mrs likes the estate but not the other, so best of both worlds is to combine the to.

I'll let some pictures do the talking.

Hid the mini in the armourers workshop, notice the slashed roof.

Got some original matching seats, frames are a little rusty. Made need some attention at some point. But adds to the sleeper look.

<script async src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script>

Turbo engine in, also repainted the front subframe with new bushes, new top arm seals and couple of other bits. Had the shock mounts welded and a crack in the inner wing, and the top engine steady bracket.

I've got a few things left to do. Mainly bolting bits back on and some wiring. Not perfect and needs a bit of tidying up but will hopefully come in time.
