I wouldn't touch it.

what are the valve and chamber sizes on your heads?

here is a good indication of what can be done with chambers

The chamber work looks really poor on the ebay head, avoid.

I've got a damaged bare head sitting in the workshop with the same work undertaken by a turbo expert at the time. must be 15yrs only now.

needless to say, knowledge has moved on and I won't be replicating it

I have measured the heads. Some are standard and the others have a valve size of 36mm inlet and 32mm exhaust. The chambers seem unmodified but the inlet and exhaust ports are worked on from some.

Isn't it best to always keep the 'beaks'? I remember someone saying that they went from a head with 'beaks' to one without, and although the compression ratio was dropped the engine was more prone to knock and less powerful

so best is to use standard size valve but bigger and flown in and outlet ports?

What are you trying to achieve ? The 29.4mm ex valve flows well enough to make good power, though there are gains to be had going with a larger ex valve, but it does reduce the material between the valve seats.
For a high mileage road car I'd probably stick with the smaller valve, on something more serious I know what I'd do.

^^^^^ wot he said!

the std metty turbo valves are 33x29, going to the MG metro sizes of 35.6x29 is always worth while, and 35.6 x31 is a good option too... but IMO pushing past this is not a good idea on a road going turbo.

i have 4 mini's in total. 1 that i use for most roadtrips with a tuned 998 and a total original mk 1 estate.... the third is a original 1300 from 92... so this one i want to go special... will probably only drive 100 miles a year.... race style blow trough supercharger on a 1293 or 1330 or 1380.... (never been done in my Belgian region so)

as joe says.......... i would add, use a head thats is not going to use bigger valves than 35.7mm inlets and 29.5mm exhausts they are usually reliable, because theres enough material left between the two valves. horsepower with these sizes can exceed 190 hp + given the correct other parts combinations.

now thats enough hp to grenade your ass out...... *Jester* *laughing*

Or if you're feeling trick you could offset the larger ex valve. This will leave more material between the valves.

Phil.
