Hi All,

a strange problem yesterday that may or may not be an issue.....

I was working on a few other bits and pieces (see other thread!) and when done, decided to let the car warm up as I haven't run it much over the winter.

It all of a sudden started to run rough, and smelt heavily of petrol. I dutifully knocked the fuel pump switch incase their was a leak and almost instantly the car settle down and ran well again.

So, took the dash pot off and with the pump on, it was leaking fuel through the bottom right hole (think three holes in a triangle, needle hole at the top)- quite a lot I think as it had reached the plenum - fuel pump off and it was fine. Is this the choke hole? carbs are not really my strong point.

I tool the carb off, looked for any obvious blockages, checked the float, etc nothing obvious, so back on it went. The car now seems to be running ok, and its not leaking with the FP on.

A couple of questions:

What would case the leakage? choke seals? or is it just a case of something getting stuck? FP giving to much pressure? or float chamber stuck?

More worryingly I have no choke assembly! it appears the previous owner has removed this and either welded or use chemical metal to seal a nut in its place. I presume this isn't common practice? not something i've seen before.

Worth mentioning, before leakage and since refitting it seems to be running ok, but I ran out of time for a road test.

Any opinions welcome, if it'll help I can get some snaps of the carb tonight.

Thanks!

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.
