When I removed the idle gear bearing from my clutch housing I managed to damage the housing but I got it TIGed up (I am using the Timken style idler gear now). The guy who welded it up built up the weld quite high so I am worried about when the clutch is depressed the back plate will make contact with the housing. Obviously I want to check this now before the engine goes in. Through the power of blutac I have measured at least 4mm of clearance between the back plate and housing with the flywheel on the taper but not fully tight. Is there any way of knowing/measuring how much the backplate will move when the clutch is in? I could grind the weld down a bit more but don't want to risk breaking through the housing.

Thanks gentlemen.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

you will get away with 2.5mm as i fit button heads to blank the holes up once i have punched the old bearing out, over that you will be clipping it grind it back a tad

EDIT:- i mean on a stand height casing where its not welded up
hope this helps jay.

You should be able to get your phone into the starter hole and get a picture with the clutch disengaged.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll grind it down a bit more then see if I can measure it up as suggested.
