I have a standard 12g295 head i am going to run a gt1549 turbo.
Is it best to go for dished or flat top hypatec pistons?

It depends on the chamber size, and what compression ratio and boost etc you are going to run.

assuming a chamber size of 28cc, then the flat tops give a little over 9:1 CR. The 6cc dish takes this down to 8.5.

both CRs are fine for boost, just depends what you want.

Thanks for the reply, I am aiming for around 130 hp with the potential for more. So do you think the dished pistons will be a better choice in the long run?

for 130 bhp you'll need 12 to 15 psi. So I'd play it safe with the lowe CR and dished pistons.

Are there any other pistons that will do the same job that are avaliable over here, and has anyone used the dished Hypatec i have read that they are pretty good?

I use the Aus Mini dished hypertecs, they are fine. Not a perfect turbo piston, but good enough.

MED sell the forged Omegas with a 5.7cc dish. But these are pricy. good for as much power as you want though.
