Got an rts clutch in there, just bolted the housing on with new everything (release bearing, plunger, arms etc)

There's only about 3mm of play in the shaft before the release bearing presses on that cup.

Does this look right? Looks like the plungers too far out to me?!

Thanks, I expect I've done something stupid.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I put that on, but even screwed on all the way smallest I can get it is 9mm. It was a Minispares non genuine plunger if it makes any difference! Spent so long doing bloody bodywork I've forgotten how to use a spanner

obviously with the extra spring on there, the plunger will sit further out byt the thickness of the extra spring. I wouldnt expect it to cause any problems. Perhaps the non genuine plunger is not the same shape, I wouldn't know, i've only ever used good used original ones.

You are using the verto type plunger?

Yup definitely verto. Order arrived from mini spares today and just double checked the part no.

Yeah your right it will sit further out when touching the pressure plate. But the 6mm gaping is done when pulling the plunger all the way out?

Thanks btw!

You need to apply light hand pressure on the arm in the direction of throw out, so that the plunger and bearing move inwards and butt up against the top hat, THEN set the throw out gap.It is in the Haynes book, just don't use any procedure for setting up the non verto clutch, as they are not relevant.

Ahhh pull the release lever, I definitely wasn't reading te Haynes manual wrong and pulling the plunger... Makes perfect sense now.. Thicker pressure plates..bigger gap.

I'll get my coat

The gap still remains the same! the clutch throw out does not change even with another spring. its just that the plunger will sit about 2.5mm further out, but you still adjust the throw out nut to give the desired clearance. I said 6mm but I think its 6.5mm by the book

Not relevant to the original question, but it may be worth turning the clevis pins round in the clutch arm.

If you ever need to take them out with the engine in the car it is impossible to wield a BFH and persuade them out if they are installed properly (facing down like you have them).

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

It is 6.5 in the book, even with the throw out nut fully wound in the gaps 8mm. I think I may have used two of the thickest pressure plates. If 8mms too big I'll have to get fancy with a washer welded to the throw out nut?

Alex they are all new and copper slipped up so shouldn't have a problem. Also I doubt the engine will last long enough for them to corrode! Lol
