I am in the process of having my gt1752 turbo actuator bracket cut and re welded and a stub of pipe welded to the inlet side of the turbo( so I can connect a small piece of pipe and air filter.) isit really nessisary that this stub of pipe is welded on air tight as in my mind I don't want any distortion or risk it too much was just thinking of getting it tacked in position as tight as possible and not seam welding it,
What do you guys think, I understand this way there could be a slight minute amount of unfiltered air going in though

It should be fine, but pre heating the casting first will stop any distortion or cracking when it cools.

Why weld it ?

Just use the original V band connection, with a piece of steel or ally machined to suit.

Well the pipe is already tacked quite nicely so is it really neccissarry to seam weld it?

My hose tails in my old manifold were chemical metal'd in they were solid but I think I would rather it be welded with the weight of a filter on it!

If the tacks welded ok, I'd be tempted just to run a bead all the way round.

There is someone on here that has welded an intake on successfully before, can't think who it was though?
