Have you measured the crank up?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I have not mic’d it. Alex at tck had a quick measure said it was standard.

It’s quite clearly a bit loose checking with plastigauge though.

Mmmm, mic it, and confirm the size,

There were different grade blocks and Cranks at one point for a plus iirc, and could be selected to get different clearances in the factory or somthing, it's mentioned in Haynes manuals iirc

TBH I probably won’t mic it as it’s clearly not going to work so won’t acheive much haha.

Interesting. Isn’t that the colours on the cranks or something? Yellow or green etc.

Bearings are all good and came from Alex at TCK who’s used them on plenty of builds.

Edit: suppose I should probably mic it to confirm its definately the crank. Although it’s the same block as before and I had no issues with it.

No offence but measure measure measure! Your going to run into troubles building engines where you've not measured things first. You also might find out who to blame haha

None taken!

It’s all done and almost built up now.

I measured the crank, was spot on STD sizes all round.

Took it all to Alex and we checked it again with the ACL pastigauge I had and it was still coming up a bit to large.

I then tried some new Mahle bearings and these were way to tight wouldn’t even pull the rods together.

Stuck the King bearings back in and tried it with some of Alex’s plastigauge and it came out all ok lol.

Bottom end all done.

Had to give the oil gets a bit of clearance due to the new rods.

New pistons look right at home *smiley*

I had some different ARP hardened washers on the head so these needed a little trim to sit snug in the little recesses on the head.

Reay to go in tomorrow.

Well, you haven't messed around getting that together.

Looking at the quoted weight I think a set may well end up in my engine.

Cheers fellas, I have to crack on because I’ve given myself silly deadlines!

26th is mapping and 6th may for mk1 action day.

It’s doable. Few bits holding me back though. ARC angels currently the worst.

Made some good progress today.

Hopefully get the wiring sorted tomorrow.

I have some how fluked it and got about 1mm of clearance to the fuel rail and the bonnet!

Cheers Callum, i'm in a bit of a rush, but trying to do it well at the same time.

Got most of the wiring done except the drivers headlight as i needed another amp plug.

Fuel lines are done.

Intercooler is being modified so the outlet points to the front.

Got the exhaust sorted, i need to come back to the rear mount as it hangs a bit low. The previous exhaust was up-swept at the end so there is a bit of a gap to the rear valance. Not much, just enough to annoy me!

Full system is a good weight. Old one was about 7-8kg. The back box is an alloy Ashley exhausts one but 4 inches longer as i wanted it to be a little quite. This is the box and centre section.

Cheers.

Got the parcel shelf done so the back end is almost finished just need a hand to tighten the window bolts..

Hopefully get the Plenum and intercooler back this weekend and it should be good to go bar a few hoses I’m waiting on.

Got the inlet made by Alex from The Car Kitchen.

Very happy with it. It’s got nice big bellmouths inside, boost take offs and the IAT sensor are underneath.

I had to modify the TB so the linkage sat 90deg further round. This meant I could put the TPS at the top allowing just enough clearance for the bonnet. Took quite a few goes to make a throttle cable bracket as it’s all very snug.

I’m just waiting on some O rings and some barbs for the air take offs and I can bolt it up tight.

Whether that’s a good thing or not remains to be seen lol.

Some bits are a little thrown together at the moment and I plan to come back to them.

It’s almost there.

It won’t start though! I am sure it’s timing related. It fired up for a few seconds but not much since.
Unfortunately my timing light has packed up. Hopefully figure it out tomorrow with a borrowed one.

I’m using a map Will k kindly sent me. Everything looks good in the software to me but I’m no expert. Just used SC’s setup guide.

The same happened to me but with the Sc base map. I towed it to the rollers and they got it going.

Like you say time to check the basics

Have you set the tps correctly?

I'm wondering if I had any odd setting that might be different. Check the trigger wheel type.

Always worth double checking the trigger wheel gap position and sensor gap.

We’re all good! Well mostly. Cars a bit of a mess!

You’re map was fine Will, thanks again for sending it.

Turned out to be the crank sensor gap, which is frustrating as I’ve never had an issue setting it before. I must of moved it a good 5-6 times with no luck the other day.

Took it to SCS and after some diagnosis it was adjusted again and worked fine.

Was then onto mapping, which went very well :).

175bhp and 180lbft at 15 psi.

There is a restriction somewhere in either the exhaust or inlet. Personally think it was the last minute lash up on the intercooler, outlet is 38mm ID and goes through a nasty bend before opening to 47mm. It didn’t want to go much over 15psi. Some further work to do.
I also need to change the rad piping to the other side of the engine. It’s to tight at the moment.

Worst bit was on literally last power run, one of the tyres I had borrowed delaminated. Nothing that can’t be fixed. Just frustrating!

Very well done Jonny. And more to do.e from it.
Your going to need 18inch wide front wheels to get that power down.
