I know people have struggled to find suitable elbows to make manifolds. There are lots of stainless out there, but no mild. Well I have found some mild elbows. They are actually for handrails, but should be fine. I'll let you know how I get on.

Any particular reason not to use stainless though?

Well I am just not set up for welding stainless. And I already have mild flange.

Overall it is a little cheaper too.

Have you tried normal ANSI b16.9 elbows schedule 10 should be fine in any material and pretty cheap. As we buy hundreds of the things if you tell me the size you want I could see how much I can get them for??

There's a fh brundles round the corner from me, my worry is that the material will be a low quality grade.

Well I know that the bends have been used on turbo manifolds with no issues.

Mossy, Thanks for the offer, but this is the problem. The bends are available, but not to the public in small quantities. Hence my link to show that there are some and other people can search on here for them.

I have purchased the odd one or two for my IC setup, I would be careful as handrail elbows will not be manufactured to any standard and I have seen poorly manufactured elbows which are very thin on the outer radius. Your choice at the end of the day. My work tend to use hpf and similar companies.

It is indeed my choice and I would recommend using these elbows to anybody that is why I am putting up a link.

I can't find any useful info on the hpf site.

I'm all for saving money, so I would use them, in the days of old money that's all you could buy, before stainless, and if Ben says there up to the job, then there worth a try, also good for mocking up your own exhaust setup too.. Alan

Black iron plumbers stuff is about the easiest stuff you could get your hands on.

Although it looks pretty much the same as the stuff in that link.

Certainly no need for stainless for a turbo manifold, I was using the plumbers stuff 20 years ago on cars. Works out even cheaper if you work on large building sites lol

I walked into BSS and asked if I could look through the catalog. Chose the part numbers I wanted and gave them a list. After talking with the guys on the counter about what they were for, they gave me discount, they then gave me a printed quote, which was not that bad TBH. it was a while back so not sure how much, but you can get weld fittings from suppliers in small quantities. that said the 3mm wall mild steel handrail bend is not going to be thinner than 1.5mm on the long radius, so it won't really matter. I'm sure the hand rail fittings have to meet a standard, and I know that the handrails I have skated in the past are more than up to task of taking abuse they were never ever designed for *happy*

This is my thought. As said by Ben, he's not the first to use these. For the price you could drill some holes in one to check the thickness all over if you were unsure. They fee quite substantial.

I also like the fact that we're using something not really designed for the purpose. The same spec pipe at Tweekies would probably be 10x more!!!

Thanks. And as a bonus it will give me something to hold onto when I get a bit wobbly at Avon.
