I have highlighted before that I have bought a standard Metro Turbo fuel pump, and the inlet is 10mm OD and the outlet is 8mm OD. The outlet is the perfect size because it mateches my 8mm ID fuel hose to the regulator, but my problem is still with the fuel pump inlet. My fuel tank (a custom made alloy tank) has an 8mm outlet, and as some members on here suggested, a reducer would be required to plumb the two together.
Im not fully comforatble with having to put the pump under constant pressure with a restriction to the inlet, and I am tryi to gauge what the best soloution is. My options are...

1) Get a different fuel pump with 8mm inlet and outlets (any reccomendations?)
2) Ask my local fabricator if he can cut the fuel tank outlet off and replace it with a 10mm version
3) Just use a simple reducer between the tank and pump and hope that the pump does not get put under excess strain.

Please let me know your views on this situation.

Many thanks for your time

Just use the reducer, i've seen it done on high pressure injection engine with the same pump, no problems. You'll also probibly find that most people on here using the same pump use a reducer in a similar manor.

If you think about this. A similar pump with an inlet of 8mm is doing exactly the same thing as a pump with a 10mm inlet and a reducer.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

We fed the pump in the metro van from the standard 6mm feed from the factory tank with a reducer. Had no problems at all.

Blimey you guys reply quickly!!!

Ok, well if its been proven then thats all I really need to know. I agree Sprocket, that is a logical statement.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will use the proven reducer method.

I would try to stretch 8mm pipe onto the pump, then you wont have an adaptor causing a restriction.

as with getting anything into a hole that's too small its just a case of getting it hot and lubricated!!

As with everything, stretch it to much and it'll split.

Seriously though, 8mm hose is already stretched to 10mm on the barb of the fitting, so stretching an 8mm hose onto a 10mm fitting you are actually trying to stretch it to 12mm................Just wont happen, and if it does, it'll split, and i'd rather have the fuel going through the engine that onto the floor *happy*

There is no efi pump with an 8mm inlet though.

That doesnt change the fact the pipe in the tank is 8mm and still the restriction

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

I have a filter before the pump, its just one of those ones with gauze in to stop small children and the like.

just wondering as were talking restrictions, i know i have quite a free flowing 12mm one but is still restrictive compared to a 12mm pipe
i have in the past run a metro pump off the standard outlet pipe on the mini tank with the return T'd back in pre pump( 6mm is it? ) no problems if you dont include the crap that took the pump out

If you put the fuel return to the pump input it will reduce any fuel restriction to just the length of time it takes for the fuel to start returning after starting the pump.
