Hi all, I fitted a pair of new 1/2" cylinders to my backplates, off the car as I cleaned and painted them, apart from having to drill new locating holes for the split pin as they were on the wrong side to standard, when I fitted the E-clips (or whatever you want to call them) they do not hold the cylinders particularly tight against the plate.

They are curved so should provide pressure, but I personally didn't really like teh material they are made of, seem a bit cheap and soft, how crucial is it, and who else has had this problem?

They came from minispares, and I had 3 new clips with them, I ditched one and used the 3rd but still not a great fit.

Cheers,
TC

I've had this in the past; if I remember correctly I flipped the E clip round and it gave a better fit, albeit still not that tight

His did you fit them? Minispares do a tool which makes it easier and the fit a bit better.

I think I used a pair of water pump pliers or similar to press them on from one side, couldn't see a better way, they aren't silly loose, but not very satisfied with the fit. They won't come loose, and they are located well in the hole so may not affect braking, I may be able to nip them up by twisting the clip with long nose pliers or something, I think I tried the clip both ways up.

I just bought the tool for this. I regret not doing it 15 years ago.

There is an easy way to do these. Take one pair of mole grips, clamp them on to the hub, positioned so the fixed jaw of the grips shoves the wheel cylinder hard against the backplate. Then you've both hands free to fit the clip.

What is "the tool"? I just put the cylinder in one end of the vise, popped the backplate over the top of it and was easy to install, just not happy with it!

I'll try twisting them to give a bit more pressure against the back plate before I get hold of more clips and re-do again.

Remove the roll pin and tap M4 or M5 and fit button head set screws.

Why don't they just thread them and stick a nut on it would be much easier...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

What a top idea!

I too have this problem but tapping the hole seems like a great solution
